<p>The Modi government has taken strong action against 16 Pakistan-based YouTube channels, banning them in India. This action was taken on the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which accused these channels of spreading inflammatory and communally sensitive content against India, false and misleading statements, and misinformation. According to government sources, these channels were specifically engaged in defaming the Indian Army and security agencies, especially in the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025. This attack killed 26 people, mostly tourists, escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Digital Strike on these Channels</h2>



<p>An official list released on 27 April 2025 revealed the names, YouTube handles, URLs, and subscriber counts of these 16 channels. Prominent channels included Dawn News (1.96 million subscribers), Samaa TV (12.7 million), ARY News (14.6 million), and Geo News (18.1 million subscribers). Other channels included Bol News (7.85 million), GNN (3.54 million), and Suno News HD (1.36 million). These channels collectively had 63.08 million subscribers, indicating their wide reach. Individual channels such as Irshad Bhatti (827K) and Raftaar (804K) were also included in this list.</p>

<p>This digital strike came at a time when the Indian government tightened restrictions on Pakistani citizens following the Pahalgam attack. Within four days, from 24 April, 537 Pakistani citizens, including nine diplomats, left India via the Attari-Wagah border. Simultaneously, 850 Indian citizens returned from Pakistan. The government linked the attack to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, prompting this move to curb digital propaganda.</p>

<p>These channels are accused of further inflaming tensions through anti-India content. Sources claim that these channels were not only spreading misinformation but also promoting communal disharmony, posing a threat to national security. This government action sends a strong message in the digital battlefield that India will not compromise its sovereignty and internal security.</p>



<p>The opposition criticised this action, calling it an attack on freedom of expression, but the government termed it a necessary step in the national interest. Following this ban, the content of these channels will no longer be available in India, dealing a significant blow to Pakistan-sponsored digital propaganda. <p>On Monday, the Congress party organised a ‘Save the Constitution Rally’ at Ramlila Maidan in Jaipur. He added that after the attack, he held a press conference in Karnataka, urging the Prime Minister to call an all-party meeting. He emphasised that when national pride is hurt, it becomes imperative to unite the nation.</p>

<p>Kharge said they had told the Prime Minister to call an all-party meeting and explain what steps the government planned to take next. He said the Congress had also called a CWC meeting and assured that in this difficult time, the party would stand united and support the government&#8217;s actions.</p>



<p>&#8220;But our country is unfortunate,&#8221; Kharge said. &#8220;Leaders from all parties came, but Modi ji did not. It is a matter of great shame; it hurt the pride of the nation.&#8221;</p>



<p>He added that Modi was delivering election speeches in Bihar at the time but could not come to Delhi. &#8220;You talk big — 56-inch chest, fighting, entering houses — but you could not even come and sit with us for a meeting after coming back from Bihar,&#8221; he said.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">‘A chai-wallah became Prime Minister’ &#8211; Kharge</h2>



<p>He highlighted that Rahul Gandhi visited Srinagar to meet the families of the victims, contrasting this with the Prime Minister&#8217;s lack of past contributions to the nation. He mentioned the sacrifices made by many for India&#8217;s independence and Ambedkar&#8217;s role in drafting the Constitution, leading to the current scenario where a former tea-seller could become Prime Minister and a son of a mill worker could become Congress President.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">‘We will send you to heaven’ &#8211; Kharge</h2>



<p>He also referenced a statement by Amit Shah in Parliament about Ambedkar, sarcastically suggesting that if Ambedkar had invoked God&#8217;s name as much as the BJP claims, he would have attained salvation. He retorted, &#8220;Now, we will send you to heaven.&#8221;</p>

<p><strong>Supreme Court on OTT:</strong> The Supreme Court of India has issued notices to the central government and several major platforms in response to a petition seeking a policy to regulate obscene and sexually explicit content on OTT (Over-the-Top) platforms and social media. The court expressed concern that the uncontrolled spread of such content could severely impact social values, mental health, and public safety.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Notices Issued to These Companies</h2>



<p>A bench comprising Justices B.R. Gavai and Augustine George Masih issued notices to the central government, as well as platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Ullu, ALTT, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. The court directed Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to clarify the government&#8217;s stance on the issue and take appropriate steps.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Background of the Case</h2>



<p>The petition was filed by Uday Mahurkar and others, demanding stricter regulations to ban sexually explicit content, nudity, and obscene scenes on OTT and social media. The petition suggested the formation of an independent committee, similar to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), comprising retired Supreme Court judges and experts, to monitor and certify such content.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Supreme Court&#8217;s Remarks</h2>



<p>During the hearing, Justice Gavai noted that the court often faces accusations of interfering with the executive and legislature&#8217;s work when intervening in such matters, but this is a sensitive issue that cannot be ignored. The court also expressed concern that parents often give mobile phones to children to keep them occupied, inadvertently exposing them to such content.</p>



<p>The central government informed the court that some regulations already exist and additional restrictions are being considered. However, the court expected the government to take concrete steps in this direction.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">SC&#8217;s Previous Warning</h2>



<p>This is not the first time the Supreme Court has expressed concern over this issue. In February 2025, following obscene comments on a YouTube show by YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadhia, the court had urged the Centre to take steps to control content on digital platforms. Subsequently, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting instructed OTT platforms to adhere to age-based content classification and self-regulation.</p>

<p><strong>Pahalgam Attack:</strong> The recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam has impacted tourism by up to 90 per cent. The cancellation of 3500-4000 bookings due to fear has significantly cooled the summer season&#8217;s business. While approximately 5000 people visit Kashmir annually, many book tickets, hotels, and motels in advance to avoid crowds. However, following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, tourists are avoiding Kashmir and other hill stations.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Pahalgam Attack: Majority of Bookings Cancelled</h2>



<p>Tour and travel operators say that tourist movement will resume once the situation normalises. However, they anticipate this will take considerable time. Raman Jadwani, state president of the Travel Federation of India (TAFI), stated that following the incident in Pahalgam, the number of tourists has significantly decreased.</p>



<p>Consequently, many are cancelling bookings made for this season. Notably, over 2.5 million tourists visit Kashmir from April to August. People typically travel to Jammu and Kashmir between April and July, according to their convenience.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Full Refunds Being Processed</h2>



<p>The TAFI state president reported that full refunds are being issued to those who made bookings. This decision was taken by the Jammu &amp; Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association, along with tourist corporations, travel agencies, and aviation companies. Refunds are being processed upon submission of relevant booking documents.</p>



<p>Travel operators state that never before have so many tourists been killed simultaneously in a terrorist attack in Kashmir. The impact of this attack is most severely felt in the state, across the country, and in Jammu and Kashmir.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rising Trend of Tourism</h2>



<p>Travel operators mention that during summer holidays, most middle and upper-class individuals travel to Kashmir and other hill stations with family and friends. The trend has increased <span style="margin: 0px;padding: 0px">post-COVID-19</span>. Bookings in 2023 totalled approximately 1600, rising to 3400 in 2024 and nearly 4600 by now in 2025. However, the terrorist attack has completely disrupted the tourism business.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1.3 Million Bookings Cancelled in the Valley</h2>



<p>According to the TAFI state president, citing Babar Chaudhary, president of the Jammu &amp; Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association, at least 1.3 million bookings from April to August have been cancelled across the valley. The association represents approximately 240 hotels and restaurants. Typically, over 2.5 million tourists visit Kashmir from April to August. However, this year, due to fear, at least 90 per cent of tourists will not be coming to Kashmir.</p>

<p><strong>IMD Weather Forecast:</strong> The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms in several states across the country, including Bihar. The weather in Bihar has changed, and strong winds, thunderstorms, and hail are expected in many districts of the state for the next two days. The meteorological department has issued red and orange alerts for more than 20 districts.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">High Alert in These Districts</h2>



<p>According to the Metrological Department, districts such as Siwan, Gopalganj, Patna, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, and Munger are expected to experience heavy rainfall and winds gusting at 50-70 km per hour. There is also a risk of lightning and hail. The disaster management department has appealed to people to stay indoors, avoid standing under trees, and stay away from electricity poles.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Weather Havoc in Other States as Well</h2>



<p>Besides Bihar, several states in North India are expected to experience adverse weather conditions. The Meteorological Department stated that heavy rain with thunderstorms is possible in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, pre-monsoon activities, including thunderstorms and rain, have been warned for Delhi-NCR, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. In eastern India, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Odisha may also experience deteriorating weather conditions after 27 April. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana in South India.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Advice for Farmers and the Public</h2>



<p>The Meteorological Department has advised farmers to keep harvested crops in safe places and to stop irrigation work. The public has been urged to avoid open fields and to use electrical appliances cautiously. Given that Bihar has previously experienced loss of life and property due to thunderstorms and lightning, it is essential to exercise caution.</p>

<p>On 10 April, thunderstorms in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh resulted in 83 deaths – 61 in Bihar and 22 in Uttar Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has again urged people to exercise extreme caution. <br>The Meteorological Department and local administration are monitoring the situation and have advised people to contact the nearest administrative authorities in case of any emergency.</p>

<p><strong>LSG Team Over Rate Penalty:</strong> Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant was penalized for a second time on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium for slow over-rate against Mumbai Indians. During the match, LSG was also sanctioned for having one fielder short outside the circle towards the end of Mumbai&#8217;s innings. Furthermore, LSG captain Rishabh Pant and all the team players have been fined as this was Pant&#8217;s second offence regarding minimum over-rate. Previously, LSG was found guilty of a slow over-rate in a league match against Mumbai.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fine Imposed on Impact Player</h2>



<p>This being a second offence, not only captain Pant but also the impact player and all members of LSG&#8217;s playing eleven have been fined. The IPL, in a released statement, said that this is LSG&#8217;s second offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to minimum over-rate offences.</p>

<p>The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has made significant changes to its Class 7 textbooks. Chapters related to the Mughals and the Delhi Sultanate have been removed. These have been replaced with new chapters on Indian dynasties, geography, the Maha Kumbh Mela, and government schemes. The NCERT claims this move aligns with the new National Education Policy and the National Curriculum Framework, 2023. It mentions sacred places such as the twelve Jyotirlingas, the Char Dham pilgrimage, Shakti Peethas, river confluences, mountains, and forests. A quote from the former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru is also included, where he describes India as a land of pilgrimage sites.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Maha Kumbh in NCERT textbooks</h2>



<p>The textbook mentions this year&#8217;s Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, stating a participation of 66 crore people. Government initiatives like Make in India, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and the Atal Tunnel are also included in the textbook. The English textbook, &#8220;Poorvi,&#8221; features fifteen stories, poems, and essays; nine of which are based on Indian authors or Indian contexts. These include Rabindranath Tagore, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, and Ruskin Bond.</p>

FIITJEE Fraud: ₹250 Crore Scam, 14,411 Students Affected, ED Probes


<p><strong>FIITJEE Fraud Case:</strong> The Enforcement Directorate (ED) Lucknow unit recently conducted searches at seven locations in Noida, Delhi, and Gurugram in connection with the FIITJEE fraud case. During these searches, the ED seized ₹10 lakh in cash and jewellery worth approximately ₹4.89 crore. This action was taken under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Reason for the Raids</h2>



<p>An ED statement revealed that the search operation targeted the residences of FIIT-JEE Director D.K. Goel, CEO, COO, and CFO, as well as the institute&#8217;s official offices. This investigation is based on several First Information Reports (FIRs) registered in Noida, Lucknow, Delhi, Bhopal, and other cities. These FIRs allege that FIITJEE&#8217;s senior management promised students and their parents quality educational services but failed to deliver, despite collecting fees.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Cash, Jewellery, Documents, and Digital Devices Seized</h2>



<p>The investigation also found that FIITJEE collected approximately ₹206 crore from ongoing batches but failed to provide the promised facilities and services to students. The searches also yielded incriminating documents and digital devices suggesting financial irregularities. The investigation revealed that the institute misused the collected funds for personal and unauthorised purposes, and even failed to pay teachers&#8217; salaries.</p>

<p>Consequently, 32 FIITJEE coaching centres across various cities including Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Meerut, Noida, Prayagraj, Delhi, Bhopal, Gwalior, Indore, Faridabad, Gurugram, and Mumbai were abruptly shut down. This move affected approximately 14,400 students and their parents. <p><strong>Malayalam Directors Arrested News:</strong> Renowned Malayalam film directors Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamza have been arrested. According to reports, police recovered 1.6 grams of hybrid ganja (cannabis) during a raid on their premises. The incident has sent shockwaves through the film industry.</p>



<p>Police reportedly acted on a tip-off and conducted the raid at around 2 am in a Kochi flat. Legal proceedings have been initiated against both directors.</p>

<p>According to media reports, police received information about ganja being stored in flat number 506, Purva Grandbay, Kochi, with individuals preparing to consume it. A special team from the Excise Department swiftly raided flat number 506 at Grandbay and arrested directors Khalid Rahman, Ashraf Hamza, and their friend, Shalif Mohammed (Directors Arrested).</p>



<p>A senior officer stated, “We have arrested all three and recovered hybrid ganja from their possession. Interrogation revealed their long-term use of ganja.”</p>
