<p><strong>Delhi Assembly Election 2025 Schedule Live:</strong></p>



<p>The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi released the final voter list, stating a total electorate of 1.55 crore. The CEO&#8217;s office, R. Ellis Vaz, stated that 1.67 lakh (1.09%) new names have been added to the list since the publication of the draft list on 29 October 2024.</p>



<p>“A total of 3,08,942 names have been added and a total of 1,41,613 names have been deleted from the draft publication to the final publication. Therefore, there has been a net increase of 1,67,329 voters during this period,” the statement said.</p>

Earthquake: Nepal Shaken by 7.1 Quake, Tremors Felt in Delhi, UP, Bihar, Bengal


<p><strong>Nepal Earthquake:</strong> Tibet Earthquake: A massive earthquake struck Tibet&#8217;s Xizang region this morning, with a magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter scale. The earthquake occurred at 6:35 AM Indian Standard Time and had a depth of 10 kilometres. Following the quake, several aftershocks were felt across Tibet, Nepal, and China, causing widespread panic. Due to the earthquake in Tibet, around 1,000 houses have been destroyed in the affected region and nearby areas.</p>



<p>According to reports, Tibet&#8217;s 7.1-magnitude earthquake has killed 95 people and damaged at least 1,000 homes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Multiple Tremors</h2>



<p>According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the strongest tremor, measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale, struck Xizang, Tibet, at a depth of 10 kilometres at 6:35 AM. The epicentre was located at latitude 28.86 N and longitude 87.51 E. The NCS reported four earthquakes in total in Xizang. The first, at 5:41 AM, measured 4.2; the second and strongest (7.1) at 6:35 AM; the third, at 7:02 AM, measured 4.7; and the fourth, at 7:07 AM, measured 4.9.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tremors Felt in Bihar</h2>



<p>Tremors lasting approximately 30 seconds were felt across several districts in Bihar, including Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, Munger, Araria, Sitamarhi, Gopalganj, Vaishali, Nawada, and Nalanda. However, no reports of damage or casualties have been received so far.</p>



<p>According to reports, China&#8217;s army is conducting a rescue operation in the earthquake-affected region. A team of more than 50 soldiers is stationed at the site, working to rescue people trapped under the rubble and transport them to hospitals. Those with minor injuries are being provided with first aid at the scene itself.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">History of Devastating Earthquakes</h2>



<p>Nepal is a seismically active region and has experienced several major earthquakes in the past. In 2015, two devastating earthquakes struck Nepal, resulting in over 9,000 deaths and 22,309 injuries.</p>

<p>The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Bihar today. Strong winds are expected in most parts of Bihar on 7th and 8th January. The cold winds will cause a drop in temperature. Dense fog is also likely in districts like Patna, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Gaya, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Begusarai, Munger, and Bhagalpur. According to the meteorological department, a second spell of cold weather may begin in the state from today, 7th January.</p>

<p><strong>School Holiday:</strong> Much of northern India is currently in the grip of a cold wave. Dense fog, along with cold winds, has enveloped several states including Delhi, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. In response, many states have extended school holidays. Many schools were scheduled to reopen on 6 January 2025, but the holidays have been extended due to the severity of the cold.</p>



<p>Schools in Haryana, Delhi, and Punjab remain closed. In Ghaziabad, adjacent to Delhi, all schools up to class 8 have been ordered closed due to the intense cold. However, no such order has been issued in Noida yet. Let&#8217;s find out which states have extended school holidays.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">School Holidays in Bihar (Bihar School Holiday)</h2>



<p>Patna&#8217;s District Magistrate, Chandrashekhar Singh, issued a notice ordering the closure of all private and government schools (including pre-schools and Anganwadi centres) up to class 8 until 11 January. The timings for classes 9 to 12 have been altered.</p>



<p>Classes from 9th to 12th will run from 9 am to 3:30 pm. Not only Patna, but schools in many other districts of Bihar will also remain closed until 11 January. These include Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Siwan, Munger, Sheikhpura, Saran, Bettiah, and several others.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">School Closures in Uttar Pradesh (UP School Holiday)</h2>



<p>A severe cold wave is sweeping across most parts of Uttar Pradesh. Schools in most cities, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Noida, Agra, Mathura, and Varanasi, have been ordered closed. According to an alert issued by the IMD, a cold wave is expected to continue in UP in the coming days.</p>

Rajasthan: Lawrence Gang Threatens Businessman, Demands ₹5 Crore


<p>Sri Ganganagar News: The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has once again threatened a businessman in Rajasthan. The incident occurred in Sri Bijayanagar area of Sri Ganganagar district, where a cotton trader received a call demanding crores of rupees in ransom in the name of gangster Rohit Godara.</p>



<p>Police said that the businessman filed a complaint at the police station late Monday night. However, the police have not disclosed the name of the businessman. In his report, the victim stated that a ransom of ₹5 crore was demanded via a WhatsApp call on Monday night. The caller identified himself as an associate of gangster Rohit Godara. The victim stated that he was threatened with death if the money was not paid.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Increased Home Security</h2>



<p>Police said that the businessman stated that his son also received a threatening call. A case has been registered at Sri Bijayanagar police station in this regard. Following the threat, security has been increased at the businessman&#8217;s house, with police personnel deployed outside.</p>



<p>In September last year, firing took place at the house of trader Shyokat Ali in the &#8216;Chak Teen E Chhoti&#8217; area of Sri Ganganagar. It is alleged that the gangster Lawrence Bishnoi&#8217;s associate, Rohit Godara&#8217;s gang, carried out this firing on contract.</p>



<p>A ransom of ₹1 crore was demanded from the businessman in the name of Rohit Godara. In May last year, he was threatened over the phone. Subsequently, he received 8 more calls, but he did not answer them.</p>

<p>Despite Jasprit Bumrah&#8217;s historic performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, his inability to bowl in the second innings of the Sydney Test match due to injury has drawn criticism from former Indian cricketer Balwinder Sandhu. Sandhu believes that bowling 15-20 overs in an innings at the highest level of cricket is not overly challenging.</p>



<p>He stated, &#8220;There&#8217;s talk about workload. How many overs did he bowl? Around 150 overs, but in how many matches or innings? Five matches or nine innings? That means 16 overs per innings or 30 overs per match. He bowled in multiple spells. Workload management is nonsense. It&#8217;s a term coined by the Australian team. I come from a time when cricketers listened to their bodies, not anyone else.&#8221;</p>



<p>He further added that bowling 15 overs in a day, even in different spells, is not a significant burden for bowlers. &#8220;You don&#8217;t bowl all five days of a Test match. They bowl in three or four spells within those overs. Today, you have good physios, good masseurs, excellent doctors who take care of your body. Despite this, if a bowler can&#8217;t even bowl 20 overs in an innings, he should forget about playing for India.&#8221;</p>



<p>He emphasised that representing India requires the ability to bowl at least 20 overs in an innings. &#8220;If you can&#8217;t do that, you should forget about playing for India and play T20 cricket, where you only have to bowl 4 overs, which are also bowled in three spells.&#8221; The former fast bowler recalled, &#8220;We used to bowl 20-30 overs a day. Kapil Dev bowled long spells throughout his career. When you bowl consistently, your muscles get stronger, so I don&#8217;t agree with the concept of workload management.&#8221;</p>



<p>In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Indian Jasprit Bumrah took a total of 32 wickets at an economy rate of 2.76 in 151.2 overs (908 balls). His best performance in an innings was 6/76. <p><strong>Lead content in children’s food:</strong> The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has set maximum limits for lead in baby food, including fruits and vegetables, yoghurt, and dry cereals. This is a significant step towards reducing the impact of this toxic metal on young children. Lead adversely affects children&#8217;s development and nervous system.</p>



<p>The FDA&#8217;s new guidelines state that this measure could reduce the amount of lead in children&#8217;s diets from processed baby food by 20% to 30%. However, these standards are voluntary and not legally binding on manufacturers. The FDA can, however, take legal action if the lead level in a product exceeds the set limit.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lead content in children’s food: Industry and Consumer Reactions</h2>



<p>Consumer organisations have welcomed the move but deem it insufficient. Thomas Galligan, a scientist at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, stated, “This FDA action is a positive step towards protecting children, but improvements are needed. The agency took too long to make a decision and ignored public suggestions.”</p>



<p>Brian Ronholm, director of food policy at Consumer Reports, described these standards as “almost meaningless” because they are based on industry feasibility, not health protection.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lead content in children’s food: Which products are not covered by the new rules?</h2>



<p>The new guidelines do not include cereal-based snacks for children under two years old, such as puffs and teething biscuits, which have been found to contain high lead levels. Furthermore, no limits have been set for other metals, such as cadmium, found in baby food.</p>

<p>According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there is no safe level of lead for children. This metal damages the brain and nervous system and slows development. However, lead is naturally present in some foods and also enters the soil, water, and air due to pollution, making its complete elimination difficult.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">FDA lead limits baby food: Limits and guidelines</h2>



<p>In the new guidelines, the FDA has set a lead limit of 10 parts per billion (PPB) for fruits, vegetables, cereal and meat mixtures, yoghurt, and pudding. For root vegetables and dry baby cereals, the limit is 20 PPB. These standards will apply to packaged baby food such as jars, pouches, tubs, and boxes.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lessons from past incidents</h2>



<p>These guidelines come at a time when over 560 children fell ill due to lead-contaminated apple-cinnamon puree between October 2023 and April 2024. That product contained 2,000 times more lead than the FDA&#8217;s set limit.</p>



<p>While the FDA&#8217;s move will improve baby food quality, consumer organisations and experts say stricter measures are needed to ensure children&#8217;s safety.</p>

<p><strong>Patrika Campaign:</strong> A gap of only one day has been given between important subjects like Mathematics and English, which is insufficient for adequate preparation. Parent Sanskar Srivastava has sent a proposal to the Chief Minister, Education Minister, and other officials to revise the timetable.</p>



<p>He argues that there should be a longer gap between English and Mathematics exams to allow students sufficient time for revision and preparation. He has suggested that the English exam be held on 21 March and the Mathematics exam on 17 March. He has also demanded an increased gap between Social Science and Sanskrit exams.</p>

<p><strong>Raipur News:</strong> The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has lowered the cut-off marks for admission to postgraduate (PG) courses in medical colleges.</p>



<p>Admissions will now be offered to candidates scoring 15 percentile in the General and EWS categories, and 10 percentile in the ST, SC, and OBC categories. Following this reduction, the Medical Education Department postponed the third round of choice filling, scheduled for 6 January, for NEET PG-qualified students.</p>



<p>With the lowered cut-off, candidates scoring 10 to 15 percentile or more will be eligible for admission. Experts attribute this decision to unfilled seats in medical colleges across the country. Medical colleges in the state also have many vacant seats. After the second round, only 23 out of 41 allocated seats were filled at Nehru Medical College, 7 out of 10 at Balaji, and 10 out of 15 at RIMS.</p>



<p>At Nehru College, 54 out of 74 All India quota seats have been filled, while state quota seats remain vacant. The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) office is conducting counselling for state, management, and NRI quota seats.</p>



<p>The state of Chhattisgarh has a total of 497 PG seats. This includes 316 state quota seats, 155 All India quota seats, and 26 NRI quota seats. Of these, 311 seats are in six government colleges and 186 in three private colleges. In government colleges, 156 are state quota seats and 155 are All India quota seats. In private colleges, admissions are to be given to 160 state and management quota seats out of the total 186 seats.</p>


<p>CG News: Following a reduction in the cut-off, candidates scoring 10 to 15 percentile or more will be eligible for admission. Experts attribute this decision to unfilled seats in medical colleges across the country.</p>
