Four Killed, Five Injured in a Factory Blast in Tamil Nadu

A powerful explosion occurred today in a firecracker factory in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. At least four people have died in this blast, while more than five others are critically injured. Those involved in the rescue operation said that the casualty figures may rise. The injured have been admitted to Virudhunagar Government Hospital for treatment.

Death Toll in Telangana reaches 35

The death toll in the explosion at a medicine factory in Telangana’s Sangareddy district on Monday has reached 35. Sangareddy SP Paritosh Pankaj said that there was an explosion in the reactor unit of the factory on June 30. Those killed in the accident were residents of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
While expressing grief over the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured from the PM Relief Fund. Telangana Health Minister Raja Narasimha said more than 200 fire personnel were deployed for rescue operations. The Rs 500 crore Sigachi Industries factory building was reduced to rubble after the accident. Initial investigations suggest that the blast was caused by a malfunction of a dryer in the quality control unit.
