
<p>A woman from India, Monika Kapoor, who fled the country 25 years ago to avoid prosecution in a financial fraud case, has been arrested in the United States of America. She had been a fugitive for a considerable period but has now been apprehended by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of India.</p>

<p>The CBI has initiated Monika Kapoor&#8217;s repatriation to India and has already departed from the US with her. The American Airlines flight carrying her is expected to land in India late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Details of the Case</h2>



<p>Monika Kapoor is accused of fraud in a duty-free gold import-export business worth ₹2.36 crore. She fled to the USA in 1999, where she allegedly collaborated with her two brothers to create forged documents for their jewellery business. These documents were reportedly used to obtain licenses for importing duty-free raw materials from the Indian government. The fraud was uncovered in 2002, and a case was filed against Monika Kapoor in 2006, but she evaded prosecution until her recent arrest. She is now being brought back to India to face legal proceedings.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">US Court Approves Extradition</h2>



<p>The United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York approved Monika Kapoor&#8217;s extradition. <p>Heavy rain and landslides have wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the death of 85 people so far. In the past 24 hours, 208 roads have been blocked. This news is crucial for anyone travelling to Himachal Pradesh by road.</p>



<p>According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 54 deaths were directly caused by landslides, flash floods, and cloudbursts, while 31 deaths resulted from road accidents.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">NH-003 Also Blocked</h2>



<p>The SDMA reported that 204 roads were blocked due to heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. This includes National Highway NH-003, connecting Mandi to Dharampur via Kotli. Furthermore, 192 distribution transformers (DTRs) and 740 water supply schemes have been disrupted across the state.</p>



<p>Mandi district is the worst affected, with 138 roads blocked and disruptions to electricity and water supply.</p>



<p>In Kullu, 20 roads are blocked due to heavy rainfall, while significant damage has also been reported in Sirmaur and Kangra districts. The department provided this information in its latest update.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, officials at the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) stated that all emergency services are on high alert, and work is underway to restore road connectivity, electricity, and water supply.</p>



<p>The SDMA has urged the public to avoid travelling on vulnerable routes, especially those at higher altitudes and prone to landslides, as more rain is expected in the coming days.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CM Visits Affected Areas</h2>



<p>Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited flood-affected areas in the Seraj assembly constituency of Mandi district on Wednesday and assured affected families of all possible assistance from the state government.</p>



<p>He also inspected the relief camp set up in Bagsiyar for the victims and reviewed the aid being provided. Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister said that relief and rescue operations are being carried out effectively in the Siraj assembly constituency.</p>



<p>However, he expressed concern over misinformation spread by some on social media. He stated, &#8220;I myself delivered relief material and rations to the rain-affected Golu by helicopter.&#8221; Later, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh also visited the affected areas to assess the damage.</p>

<p>Brazilian President Lula responded sharply to Trump&#8217;s statement. President da Silva said that Brazil is a sovereign nation with its own independent institutions. We will not accept any kind of external interference. He stated that the ongoing proceedings against former President Bolsonaro are entirely under the purview of the judiciary. No external pressure will be accepted.</p>



<p>President Lula stated that freedom of expression in Brazil does not mean violence, aggression, or spreading hatred. He said that Brazil will not tolerate any kind of online hate speech, racism, child exploitation, or any other form of abuse. President da Silva said that all companies operating in the country, whether domestic or foreign, must abide by Brazilian laws. He added that over the past 15 years, trade between the US and Brazil has benefited the US by $410 billion, according to US reports.</p>

<p>Trump also issued a direct threat to the countries in the BRICS group. Trump said that the BRICS organisation was created to harm the US and will soon face a 10 percent tariff. He said that BRICS wants to weaken the dollar and remove it from the global standard. They will have to pay a heavy price for this. He said that with a smart president, you won&#8217;t lose the dollar&#8217;s position, but a foolish president, as last time, will lose the dollar. Weakening the dollar means losing a world war.</p>

<p>On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump announced heavy tariffs on seven countries: Algeria, Iraq, Libya, Sri Lanka, Brunei, Moldova, and the Philippines. These import tariffs will come into effect on August 1st. <p>Lalu Prasad Yadav has received a major setback ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. The Jharkhand High Court has accepted a CBI petition to increase his sentence in a case related to the fodder scam. The court has accepted the criminal appeal filed by the CBI to increase the sentences of Lalu Prasad and three other accused. The CBI had filed the petition to increase the sentence of those convicted in the case of fraudulent withdrawal of ₹89 lakh from Deoghar in the fodder scam.</p>



<p>The bench of Jharkhand High Court Justices Rangon Mukhopadhyay and Ambuj Nath accepted the petition. The CBI had filed a criminal appeal to increase the sentence in the case of illegal withdrawal from the Deoghar treasury in the fodder scam. The petition filed by the CBI appealed for an increased sentence for Lalu Prasad, Beck Julius, Subir Bhattacharjee, R.K. Rana, Phoolchand Singh, and Mahesh Prasad. Of these, R.K. Rana, Phoolchand Singh, and Mahesh Prasad are deceased. Therefore, the hearing was held for the remaining three.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CBI&#8217;s arguments in court</h2>



<p>The CBI argued in court that at the time of the alleged scam, Lalu Prasad was fully aware of the manipulation in the Deoghar treasury. Despite these facts, the lower court sentenced him to three and a half years for this crime. The maximum sentence for such a case is seven years. After hearing the CBI&#8217;s arguments, the court accepted the petition to increase the sentences of those convicted.</p>

<p>Earthquake tremors were felt in the Delhi-NCR region on Thursday morning. These tremors were felt in Ghaziabad, Meerut, and Baghpat, including Delhi-Noida. The earthquake struck at 9:01 AM and lasted for about ten seconds. The sudden earthquake caused people to panic and rush out of their homes. Most people only realised an earthquake had occurred after it had ended. According to media reports, the National Centre for Seismology reported the epicentre of the earthquake to be Jhajjar, Haryana. Its intensity was measured at approximately 4.01 on the Richter scale.</p>

<p>On Thursday morning, people in Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Meerut, and Noida in Uttar Pradesh, as well as in the nation&#8217;s capital, Delhi, were suddenly jolted. The reason? Earthquake tremors. Tremors were felt in all these districts. These tremors lasted for about 10 seconds, causing people to flee their offices and homes in fear. This was partly because the tremors were quite strong. A similar earthquake occurred on February 17th. At 9:01 AM, similar tremors struck again. Ceiling fans in buildings began to sway. Those who were on the streets also felt the tremors, which lasted for about ten seconds. The Delhi-NCR region is quite sensitive to earthquakes. Fortunately, the intensity of the earthquake was 4.1. Had it been slightly stronger, the earthquake could have caused significant damage.</p>

<p><strong>Sunil Gavaskar Birthday:</strong> Sunil Gavaskar, Indian cricket&#8217;s &#8216;Little Master&#8217;, is counted among the greatest batsmen in the world. This former captain played many outstanding innings during a time when fast bowlers dominated the cricket field. It was an era when batsmen had neither superior bats nor much protective equipment. Even so, Gavaskar played many courageous innings.</p>



<p>Born on July 10, 1949, in Mumbai, Sunil Gavaskar was small in stature, but his reputation in the cricket world was immense. On the cricket field, he was fearless and undaunted. In 1981, a Test match between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground saw a decision by Sunil Gavaskar that shook the cricket world.</p>



<p>Team India had lost the first match of the series, played in Sydney. After that, India managed to draw the second match. Team India now had only one option to draw the three-match series: to win the third Test at all costs. Throughout this series, poor umpiring posed challenges for India.</p>



<p>In the first innings of the third Test in Melbourne, the Indian team was bowled out for just 237 runs. In reply, Australia scored 419 runs. Based on the first innings, Team India was 182 runs behind, but in the second innings, India&#8217;s opening pair raised hopes. Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Chauhan had added 165 runs for the first wicket. Gavaskar had scored 70 runs. Meanwhile, a ball from Dennis Lillee hit Gavaskar&#8217;s pads, and umpire Rex Whitfield gave him out lbw.</p>



<p>Gavaskar looked unhappy and tried to explain to the umpire. Moments later, Gavaskar was heading towards the pavilion, but in the meantime, he also told Chetan Chauhan, who was at the other end, to return. At Gavaskar&#8217;s behest, Chetan Chauhan hesitantly started to return to the pavilion, but India&#8217;s group manager, S.A.K. Durrani, prevented Chauhan from leaving the field in time.</p>



<p>India scored 324 runs in this innings, and Kapil Dev took five wickets, dismissing the home team for just 83 runs in the next innings. Team India won the match by 59 runs and the series ended in a 1-1 draw. However, many years later, Gavaskar revealed that he wasn&#8217;t angry with the umpire&#8217;s decision, though he was disappointed. He explained that as he was returning to the dressing room, an Australian player used abusive language towards him, which angered him, causing him to tell Chetan Chauhan to return.</p>



<p>Sunil Gavaskar played 125 Tests for India, scoring 10,122 runs at an average of 51.12. During this time, he scored four double centuries, 34 centuries, and 45 half-centuries. In 108 One Day Internationals, Sunil Gavaskar scored 3,092 runs at an average of 35.14.</p>

<p>Land belonging to farmers will be acquired to widen the road from Natni Ka Bara to Alwar. The PWD NH will acquire approximately 43 hectares of land affecting around 3,000 farmers. The administration will provide compensation. Preparations are underway to announce the award within a week, after which the road work will proceed. An elevated road is proposed in Sariska.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Compensation of approximately ₹70 crore</h2>



<p>To connect that road, widening of approximately 14 kilometres of road from Natni Ka Bara to Alwar is necessary. After widening, this road will become a two-lane road. This will increase the speed of vehicles and reduce the distance between Alwar and Jaipur. The PWD NH requires land for widening. In this case, land belonging to nearby farmers will be acquired. This involves 500 khesras (land records) and the land of approximately 3,000 farmers. Compensation will be provided for 43 hectares of land. It is reported that approximately ₹70 crore will be given to the farmers as compensation.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">First phase survey complete</h2>



<p>PWD NH will construct a flyover in Kati Ghati. A Delhi-based agency is conducting the survey. The first phase of the survey has been completed. Now, in the second phase, the flyover route will be decided. This work is to be completed in three months. After that, it will go to the central government for approval, and then tenders will be invited for the construction of the flyover.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">₹88 crore to be spent on road widening</h2>



<p>₹88 crore will be spent on road widening. The work is not fully underway yet. After the award is announced, the department will focus on construction. A department engineer says that the administration is going to announce the award soon. After that, land acquisition will take place. Before that, farmers will also receive compensation.</p>

<p>Asia&#8217;s oldest elephant, Vatsala passed away on Tuesday at Panna Tiger Reserve. She had been unwell for quite some time and died around 1:30 pm. In the park, she played a crucial role in caring for the calves of other elephants, earning her the affectionate title of &#8220;Dadi&#8221; (grandmother). The Tiger Reserve management had attempted to get Vatsala recognised as the world&#8217;s oldest elephant in the Guinness Book of World Records, but lacked the necessary documentary evidence. Currently, the record is held by Lin Wang, an elephant from a zoo in Taiwan, who died at the age of 86.</p>



<p>The park management expressed grief over the death of its oldest elephant and conducted a proper funeral ceremony for her.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Vatsala brought to Madhya Pradesh from Kerala</h2>



<p>According to wildlife experts, the average lifespan of elephants is 50 to 70 years. By the age of 70, elephants typically lose their tusks. Vatsala had been without tusks since 2000. Born in the Nilambur Forest of Kerala, Vatsala was brought to the Borai Sanctuary in Hoshangabad in 1972, at an estimated age of 50 years.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Loss of vision due to cataracts</h2>



<p>Wildlife expert Dr Sanjeev Kumar Gupta explains that due to old age, Vatsala developed cataracts in both eyes in February 2020, impairing her vision. Her caretakers would guide her through the jungle by holding her trunk or ears. She was unable to walk long distances without assistance. Even the younger elephants in the herd would help her while walking. Vatsala was known for her calm and sensitive nature.</p>

<p><strong>PCB Increases Pakistani Players&#8217; Salaries:</strong> The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to increase the salaries of its consistently underperforming national team, while simultaneously reducing the salaries of domestic players. The PCB has cut domestic player contracts by approximately 34%, while approving a substantial 37% increase in salaries for centrally contracted international players. The Board of Governors approved this decision as part of its new annual budget. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Pakistan&#8217;s Senior Team&#8217;s Consistent Failures</h2>



<p>Despite Pakistan&#8217;s disappointing performance in global cricket, the PCB has given its players a significant reward. In the past 12 months alone, the men&#8217;s team failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the 2024 T20 World Cup, lost to the USA and Ireland before the World Cup, and recently exited the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which they hosted, before the semi-finals.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PCB&#8217;s Strange Decision</h2>



<p>Following a humiliating defeat in the Test series against Bangladesh and a drawn home series against the West Indies, accountability from the top level might have been expected. Instead, the PCB has inexplicably chosen to reward the same players who have consistently underperformed, while simultaneously dismantling the ecosystem (domestic cricket) that had actually shown promise.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Budget Reduced from 684 to 450 Million Pakistani Rupees</h2>



<p>According to media reports, the PCB&#8217;s contract budget for domestic players has been reduced from 684 million Pakistani Rupees to 450 million Pakistani Rupees. Meanwhile, the budget for international contracts has also increased, with the number of centrally contracted male players rising from 25 to 30.</p>

<p>Stacks of currency notes were found inside a government residence that had been locked for 11 years. The residence was allocated to an ACMO (Additional Chief Medical Officer) who died approximately 11 years ago. All the notes were old ₹500 and ₹1000 denominations.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Residence Allotted to Additional Chief Medical Officer</h2>



<p>This government residence is located in the Miranpur CHC complex. It was allocated to ACMO Dr. B.N. Tiwari. Dr Tiwari was appointed in Ambedkarnagar on 28 August 2007. He died under suspicious circumstances on 29 January 2014. His body was found on his bed in his room, following which the administration sealed the residence. Neither his family came forward nor did the department deem it necessary to reopen the room.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">House remained closed for a decade</h2>



<p>The room remained locked for almost a decade. During this time, more than half a dozen CMOs came and went in the district, but no one paid attention to this residence. However, when the new CMO, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Shaival (डॉ. संजय कुमार शैवाल), decided to have the building repaired, the matter came to light again.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">₹22.5 Lakh Found Hidden Under Bed and in Cupboard</h2>



<p>With permission from the District Magistrate, a team was formed, and with videography, the room&#8217;s lock was broken. Upon opening the door, the officials were stunned by the sight inside the room. Old ₹500 and ₹1000 notes, hidden under the bed and in the cupboard, were recovered. The total amount was ₹22,48,000. Since these notes became invalid after the 2016 demonetisation, they have been deposited in the treasury.</p>


<p>A shocking incident has come to light from Ambedkarnagar district. The matter has stunned both the administration and the general public. A large amount of cash has been found in a government residence that has been locked for approximately 11 years, causing a sensation.</p>

Bihar Police Constable Admit Cards Out Post-Midnight Tonight


<p>The written examination for the recruitment of 19,838 constables in the Bihar Police will be held in six phases, starting from 16 July 2025 and ending on 3 August 2025. Admit cards for candidates appearing in this examination will be released online from 12 midnight on 9 July. Candidates can download their e-admit cards from the website <a href="csbc.bihar.gov.in">csbc.bihar.gov.in</a> using their registration ID, mobile number, or date of birth. <p><strong>BPSC AE Admit Card 2025:</strong> The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has announced the release date for the admit cards for the Assistant Engineer (AE) competitive examination 2025. According to the notification issued by the commission, candidates appearing for the examination can download their e-admit cards from 14 July 2025. Candidates are advised to visit the official BPSC website, bpsc.bihar.gov.in or onlinebpsc.bihar.gov.in, and download their admit cards using their login credentials (username and password). The commission will not send admit cards by post.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">BPSC AE Exam: Exam Date and Centre Information</h2>



<p>The BPSC Assistant Engineer examination (BPSC AE Exam) will be conducted on 17, 18 and 19 July 2025. Information related to the examination centres, such as centre codes, will be available on the website from 16 July 2025. Candidates are advised to reach the examination centre well before the scheduled time. No candidate will be allowed entry into the examination hall after the scheduled time. Adherence to the timings and instructions mentioned on the admit card is mandatory.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to Download the BPSC AE Admit Card 2025</h2>



<p>To download the admit card, first visit the official BPSC website, bpsc.bihar.gov.in.<br>On the website&#8217;s homepage, click on the ‘Download Admit Card’ link.<br>Now, log in on the login page using your username and password.<br>Your admit card will be displayed on the screen.<br>Carefully check all the information.<br>Download the admit card and take a printout.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Important Information</h2>



<p>Carrying a hard copy of the admit card is mandatory to appear in the examination.<br>Along with this, candidates must also carry a valid photo identity card. Other information related to the examination will be made available on the website from time to time.</p>
