
<p>The Indian government has reduced toll rates by up to 50% on sections of National Highways (NH) where bridges, tunnels, flyovers, or elevated roads are present. Toll collection on National Highways is governed by the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways amended these rules and issued a new notification on Wednesday. This will result in lower toll charges for drivers travelling long distances.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Significant Benefits for Long-Distance Travellers</h2>



<p>According to the new rules, if these structures (bridges, tunnels, flyovers, or elevated roads) are present on highways, the toll will be calculated in two ways. First, by multiplying the length of the structure by ten and adding it to the length of the other road, or second, by multiplying the entire length of the structure by five. The lower of the two will be the basis for calculating the toll. This rule will benefit expressway or long-distance travellers the most.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Illustrative Example</h2>



<p>For instance, if the total length of a National Highway structure is 40 kilometres and it is entirely a structure (such as a tunnel or flyover), the new calculation would be: 10 × 40 = 400 kilometres and 5 × 40 = 200 kilometres. The lower value (200 kilometres) will now be used as the basis for calculating the toll. This means that in this situation, the toll fee will be reduced by up to 50%.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Previous System</h2>



<p>Under the previous rules, travellers had to pay ten times the toll on sections with these structures. The intention was to recover the cost of these expensive construction projects. An NHAI official stated that the new rule has been introduced due to its impact on the public&#8217;s finances.</p>

<p><strong>Nehal Modi Arrested:</strong> Nehal Modi, brother of fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi, has been arrested in the United States in connection with the multi-crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam. This marks a significant diplomatic victory for India. According to the US Department of Justice, Nehal Modi, a Belgian citizen, was taken into custody on 4 July. The US prosecution complaint alleges two charges against him: money laundering under Section 3 of the PMLA, and criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">₹13,500 Crore Scam</h2>



<p>Nirav Modi, his uncle Mehul Choksi, Nehal, and others are wanted by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for allegedly defrauding PNB of approximately ₹13,500 crore using fraudulent Letters of Undertaking (LOUs). While Nirav Modi&#8217;s extradition has already been approved by the UK High Court, the process of bringing him to India is delayed due to several appeals filed by him.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Preparations Continue to Bring Nirav Modi to India</h2>



<p>Nirav, currently imprisoned in London, was declared a fugitive economic offender in 2019. Earlier this year, the Belgian government stated that 65-year-old Choksi was arrested in Antwerp following India&#8217;s extradition request. Choksi fled India in 2018 and has since been residing as a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda.</p>

<p>The charges against Nehal Modi stem from ED and CBI investigations which revealed his crucial role in laundering the proceeds of crime on behalf of Nirav Modi. He now faces extradition from the UK. He is accused of assisting in concealing and transferring large sums of illicit money through a network of shell companies and complex foreign transactions to hide the proceeds of crime. The next hearing in the extradition proceedings is scheduled for 17 July. During this hearing, Nehal is likely to apply for bail. The US prosecution has stated that it will oppose his application.</p>

<p><strong>Amarnath Yatra:</strong> Three buses carrying pilgrims collided on the Amarnath Yatra route in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir. At least 36 people were injured in the accident. Officials said that the buses&#8217; brakes failed near Chandrakot on the Pahalgam route, causing them to collide. Police and health department rescue teams arrived at the scene immediately after receiving information about the incident. The injured were taken to Ramban District Hospital for first aid (Treatment).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">36 Pilgrims Injured</h2>



<p>Ramban&#8217;s Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Alyas Khan, stated that the last vehicle of the Pahalgam convoy lost control and collided with stranded vehicles at the Chandrakot Langer site. Four vehicles were damaged in this accident, and 36 pilgrims sustained injuries.</p>



<p>Dr. Mohammad Rafi, the In-charge Medical Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir District Hospital, said that a bus carrying pilgrims to the Amarnath Yatra collided with another bus. &#8220;We received a total of 36 injured patients. All the patients have been treated here; we did not refer anyone to another hospital. 10 patients have been discharged, and almost all patients will be discharged within the next hour,&#8221; he stated.</p>

<p>The pilgrimage to the sacred Amarnath cave commenced on July 3rd. This 39-day-long yatra will conclude on August 9th, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. Pilgrims choose between two routes, Pahalgam and Baltal, to reach the sacred cave situated at a height of 3,888 meters. Pilgrims travelling via the Pahalgam route cover a total distance of 46 kilometres on foot, passing through Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni.</p>

<p>The Rajasthan Roadways administration has started monitoring buses through video calling after taking action against ticketless passengers. Officials are video calling conductors to check the number of passengers and their tickets.</p>



<p>This new method of bus inspection has been implemented on the instructions of MD Purushottam Sharma. Special surveillance is being maintained, particularly on buses operating on various routes at night, to prevent drivers and conductors from allowing ticketless passengers to travel. All officers, including the Depot&#8217;s Chief Manager, Manager Operations, Manager Administration, and Manager Traffic, have been instructed to monitor buses using this new method.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Keeping an Eye on Passenger Numbers</h2>



<p>Through video calls, officials are obtaining passenger counts and ticket information from bus conductors. Tickets are being checked by directly interacting with passengers. Information is also being gathered about bus cleanliness and staff behaviour. Passengers can also directly complain about the behaviour of the bus driver and conductor.</p>



<p>This new system will enable the Roadways administration to monitor every bus departing from the depot. The biggest advantage is the ease of checking long-distance buses. Due to staff shortages, Roadways is unable to physically check all buses; however, video calling will allow for the monitoring of numerous buses in a single day. This will also prevent revenue loss.</p>



<p>Following the headquarters&#8217; instructions, a new method of bus inspection has been devised. This is making it possible to monitor every bus. <p><strong>LU UGET Admission 2025:</strong> Lucknow University (LU) has announced the dates for its Undergraduate Entrance Tests (UGET 2025) for undergraduate course admissions. According to the university, these examinations will be held from 5 July to 12 July 2025.</p>

<p>On the homepage, click on the ‘UG Entrance Admit Card 2025’ or ‘Download Admit Card’ link.</p>



<p>The login page will now open, where you should enter your registered email ID, password, and captcha code.</p>



<p>Press the ‘Login’ button.</p>



<p>Your admit card will appear on your screen. Check it, download it, and take a printout.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Important Instructions</h2>



<p>It is mandatory to bring your admit card and a valid identity document such as an Aadhaar card, voter ID, or driving licence on the day of the examination.</p>



<p>Candidates must arrive at the centre at least 30 minutes before the start of the examination.</p>



<p>No electronic devices such as mobile phones, smartwatches, etc., will be allowed in the examination centre.</p>

<p>अलवर. भगवान जगन्नाथ रूपबास पहुंच गए हैं। अब वैवाहिक रस्में प्रारंभ हो गई हैं। रविवार को वरमाला होगी। इसके बाद 7 जुलाई को रूपबास में भर मेला रहेगा। इस दिन का सार्वजनिक अवकाश भी घोषित किया गया है।<br />
देवशयन एकादशी पर सुबह मां जानकी की सवारी पुराना कटला स्थित जगन्नाथ मंदिर से सुबह 8 बजे रूपबास के लिए रवाना होगी। इसके बाद विवाह की सभी रस्में शुरू होंगी। भगवान के चतुर्भुज रूप के दर्शन भी इसी दिन होंगे। भगवान को परंपरागत रूप से कंपनी बाग से लाई गई आंकडे की 15 फीट माला पहनाई जाएगी। इसके अलावा छत्तीसगढ़, वृंदावन से आई मोगरा और तुलसी की माला भी पहनाई जाएगी। </p>
<p> भगवान जगन्नाथ की रथयात्रा के अवसर पर रूपबास स्थित रूपहरि मंदिर में पर्यटन विभाग की ओर से सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए गए।  </p>
