Uttar Pradesh: 7 new expressways to be built, passing through 56 districts – is yours on the list?


<p><strong>UP Expressways:</strong> The Uttar Pradesh government has finalised plans for the construction of the Vindhya Expressway and the Vindhya Purvanchal Expressway. Preparations are underway to commence construction of both expressways in July. A consultant company will be selected in March to determine the routes for both expressways. Following the survey, the company will finalise the routes, after which land acquisition will take place. Subsequently, a developer will be chosen to undertake the construction. UPIDA (Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority) has prepared a comprehensive plan for the expressway construction.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Vindhya Expressway to be 320 km long</h2>



<p>The 320 km long Vindhya Expressway will commence from Prayagraj and extend to Mirzapur, Varanasi, Chandauli, and Sonbhadra. The estimated cost is ₹22400 crore. From there, the expressway could potentially connect to Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, a new link expressway will commence from Chandauli on the Vindhya Expressway and connect to Ghazipur, the final point of the Purvanchal Expressway. This will be named the ‘Vindhya Purvanchal Link Expressway’. This approximately 100 km long expressway is estimated to cost ₹7000 crore.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lucknow Link Expressway</h2>



<p>The Lucknow Link Expressway will be 50 km long. This road is being constructed to connect the Purvanchal and Agra Expressways. ₹4200 crore has been allocated for its construction and land acquisition.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Chitrakoot Link Expressway</h2>



<p>The Chitrakoot Link Expressway will be 120 km long. This expressway will connect Bundelkhand to various districts.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jhansi Link Expressway</h2>



<p>The Bundelkhand Expressway will connect to Jhansi. It will be 100 kilometres long. This will provide direct expressway access to the most important districts of Bundelkhand.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Jewar Link Expressway</h2>



<p>The Jewar Link Expressway will connect the Jewar Airport to the Yamuna Expressway. It will be 76 km long.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Agra-Lucknow Ganga Expressway Link Road</h2>



<p>This link expressway will be constructed to connect the Ganga Expressway between Prayagraj and Meerut to Lucknow. The estimated cost is approximately ₹8000 crore.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ganga Expressway work to be completed by November</h2>



<p>Meanwhile, the construction of the Ganga Expressway, being built from Meerut to Prayagraj, is 71% complete. The projected completion date is November 2025. 95% of the earthwork on the main carriageway has been completed. 1500 structures are to be erected along the entire route. As of 10 February, 1412 structures have been completed.</p>

India to Launch National AI Compute Portal


<p><strong>India AI mission portal:</strong> The Indian government is set to launch the ‘IndiaAI’ compute portal within seven to eight days. This platform will allow key stakeholders to request compute capacity, including central ministries, state governments, and other major players. The ‘IndiaAI’ compute pillar has issued a memo to all central ministries, departments, and chief secretaries outlining subsidised rates for computing capacity, network, and storage services.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Will Cover 40% of Computing Costs</h2>



<p>According to media reports, the IndiaAI mission will cover approximately 40% of the computing costs for eligible users. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the portal will be launched very soon. The mission will provide shared computer resources through approximately 14,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). These GPUs will be provided through ten companies that submitted the lowest bids, including Yotta Data Services, E2E Networks, and Tata Communications. Around 70% of the GPUs are high-capacity models, while the remaining 30% are lower-capacity or older-generation GPUs. Yotta Data Services will provide the highest compute capacity (9,216 GPUs).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Purpose of the Initiative</h2>



<p>The government has accelerated efforts to develop AI models domestically. This move is seen as a response to China&#8217;s DeepSeek, which was developed at a significantly lower cost compared to models from major companies like OpenAI. The initiative to acquire new GPUs aims to provide researchers and startups with the necessary computing power to develop foundational AI models, the same models that underpin chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini.</p>

It has now been revealed that the third umpire, Gayatri Venugopalan, made the correct decisions under a changed rule, a fact unknown to the teams at the time.</p>

Previously, the stumps were considered broken as soon as the bails lit up. Under the new rules, this is no longer the case; the frame where the bails are removed will be reviewed.</p>

<p>On Monday, a bus accident took place on a highway in Yocalla, Tomás Frías province, Bolivia, connecting Potosi and Oruro. A passenger bus overturned and plunged approximately 800 metres into a ravine, causing widespread panic. </p>

<p>The bus accident in Yocalla, Tomas Frias province, Bolivia, on the highway connecting Potosí and Oruro, resulted in 31 fatalities. Some victims died at the scene, others while being transported to the hospital, and some succumbed to their injuries during treatment.</p>

<p>Holidays Declared in MP: According to the directives of the Women and Child Development Ministry of the Madhya Pradesh government, it is mandatory to provide supplementary nutrition to Anganwadi beneficiaries for 300 days a year. Along with this, the Collector has declared local holidays for Anganwadis in the district under Women and Child Development for the year 2025.</p>



<p>Damoh Collector Sudhir Kumar Kochar has declared local holidays on 26 February (Mahashivratri), 14 March (Holi), 19 March (Rang Panchami), 31 March (Eid-ul-Fitr), 12 May (Buddha Purnima), 7 June (Eid-ul-Zuha), 9 August (Raksha Bandhan), 16 August (Janmashtami), 30 September (Durga Ashtami), 20 October (Diwali), 10 October (Karva Chauth), 15 November (Birsa Munda Jayanti), and 25 December (Christmas Day).</p>



<p>Similarly, Ashoknagar Collector Subhash Kumar Dwivedi has declared holidays for Anganwadi centres on 26 February, 13 March, 14 March, 31 March, 7 June, 9 August, 16 August, 26 August, 27 August, 1 October, 20 October, and 23 October (Bhaidooj).</p>

<p>Excise Department: The Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has commenced the process for allocating retail liquor shops for the year 2025-26. Interested applicants can apply online through the portal: <a href="https://exciseelotteryup.upsdc.gov.in/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://exciseelotteryup.upsdc.gov.in/</a>. This entire process is being conducted through an e-lottery system to ensure transparency and prevent applicants from facing any difficulties.</p>



<p>Excise Department: The Uttar Pradesh Excise Department has cautioned applicants to use only the official portal for applying and to beware of any brokers or agents. The department has also released helpline numbers for assistance with the application process.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to Apply? Know the Complete Process</h2>



<p>Register on the portal. First, open the e-lottery portal. Click on the &#8220;Register&#8221; button on the homepage. Enter your mobile number, PAN number (the fourth digit of which should be &#8220;P&#8221;), and captcha. Enter the OTP received on your mobile to complete the registration. Log in and update your profile. After registration, click on &#8220;Registered Applicant Login&#8221; on the homepage. Change your password on your first login and update your profile information. Upload the applicant&#8217;s photo and click the &#8220;Save&#8221; and then &#8220;Next&#8221; button. Upload necessary documents. Fill in bank details and upload a cancelled cheque (less than 100 KB). Upload income tax returns, PAN card (less than 100 KB), and proof of identity (less than 200 KB). After uploading all documents, click the &#8220;Confirm Profile&#8221; button to save your profile.</p>

<p>Click on the &#8220;Lottery Shops&#8221; button on the homepage. Select &#8220;View Shop&#8221; to view the list of shops. Select the desired shop and confirm the application. Upload the &#8220;Applicant Affidavit&#8221; and other necessary documents. If you wish to add a nominee, upload their relevant documents as well. Save the application and click the &#8220;Apply for New Shop&#8221; button. Pay the application fee. After submitting the application, click on the &#8220;Payment Button&#8221;. Pay the fee through net banking, UPI, NEFT/RTGS. &#8220;Payment Status Success&#8221; will be displayed once the payment is successful. <p><strong>Eye Parasites:</strong> A case has emerged at AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), Bhopal, where a one-inch long live parasite was found in a man&#8217;s eye, causing redness. This rare case is only the 3rd or 4th of its kind reported worldwide. The young man underwent examination at the ophthalmology department of AIIMS Bhopal, where the presence of a live parasite in his eye was discovered. The parasite measured one inch in length, surprising even the doctors. But how do parasites get into the eyes, or how do such insects thrive there? We will explore the causes and prevention measures in detail.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Special rare surgery done in AIIMS</h2>



<p>Doctors at AIIMS hospital, Bhopal, removed a live worm from a patient&#8217;s eye during a complex surgery. This was a shocking case where a young man experienced rapid reddening of his eyes and difficulty seeing. Despite medication, his vision continued to deteriorate. Investigations revealed a live parasite in his eye, measuring one inch in length, which surprised the doctors. Following the examination, the doctors also explained how the parasite entered the young man&#8217;s body and spread to his eyes.</p>

<p>Symptoms include redness or irritation in the eyes, and corneas that appear cloudy or dirty or have a ring-shaped area on their surface. Blurred or weakened vision (usually in severe or advanced cases).</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"> Eat well-cooked meat</h2>



<p>AIIMS doctors warned that meat should be thoroughly cooked before consumption. They explained that raw or undercooked meat can lead to parasite entry into the body, spreading to various organs including the skin, brain, and eyes, causing serious health problems. They also explained that, particularly with frozen fish, there is a life cycle involved. Fish meat contains eggs which, upon reaching the stomach, transform into larvae. At this stage, the larvae are very small and can enter the bloodstream, spreading to any part of the body. Once they reach a safe location, they begin to grow, making their later removal difficult.</p>
