Israel agrees to ceasefire, awaits Hamas response; Trump warns Hamas of dire consequences


<p>Peace may soon be restored in the Middle East. Israel has approved a ceasefire proposal with Hamas in Gaza, a proposal brokered by Qatar. Israel now awaits Hamas&#8217;s response. The Israeli newspaper, <i>Jerusalem Post</i>, reported that Hamas may accept the proposal soon. Qatar is reportedly putting significant pressure on Hamas to agree to a ceasefire.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Agree to a Ceasefire, or Else…</h2>



<p>US President Donald Trump warned Hamas on Truth Social, stating, “I hope Hamas accepts this deal; otherwise, the consequences will be dire.” Following negotiations, Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff gave the green light to Qatar&#8217;s ceasefire proposal. It is understood that Hamas has agreed to continue negotiations on ending the conflict even after a 60-day ceasefire.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">IDF Withdrawal from Gaza</h2>



<p>Negotiations regarding the IDF&#8217;s withdrawal from Gaza are ongoing. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated, “We are serious about the release of hostages and a ceasefire. We have accepted the Qatari-American proposal. We want to start negotiations as soon as possible.”</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Hamas Attack in 2023</h2>



<p>Hamas launched an attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, calling the operation “Al Aqsa Flood.” According to the Israeli government, 1200 people were killed in this attack. Hamas fighters took 251 people hostage. Hamas stated that it launched this attack in response to the blockade of Gaza and to demand the release of thousands of Palestinians.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Israel&#8217;s Military Operation</h2>



<p>Following Hamas&#8217;s attack, Israel launched a military operation. Over 56,000 Palestinian civilians were killed in this operation. Gaza&#8217;s health ministry stated that 5 people in Gaza are facing starvation. According to a UN report, if Israel does not lift restrictions, 1 in 5 people in Gaza could face starvation, with 2.1 million people potentially facing famine.</p>

<p>UP Cabinet Decision: A major relief for citizens in urban areas of Uttar Pradesh is expected from a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath scheduled for Thursday. The meeting is likely to approve a crucial proposal from the Housing Department that will allow for the construction of shops and other commercial facilities on the same plot as residential buildings in Uttar Pradesh.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Major Step Towards Mixed Land Use</h2>



<p>Currently, mixed land use —allowing both residential and commercial construction on a single plot—is not permitted in Uttar Pradesh. This has caused difficulties for people, forcing small businesses and entrepreneurs to acquire separate plots or relocate to commercial areas. This situation is set to change with significant amendments to building development bylaws.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Proposal Inspired by Gujarat Model</h2>



<p>Sources indicate that the Uttar Pradesh government has based these amendments on the Gujarat model. Gujarat already allows mixed land use, significantly boosting urban lifestyles and economic activities. If approved, the UP government will permit the construction of shops, small complexes, washrooms, etc., alongside residential buildings.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Basement Use for Commercial Activities</h2>



<p>The proposed amendments will allow the use of building basements for commercial purposes. Currently, basements are restricted to parking or storage; the new rules will permit shops, warehouses, or other commercial uses, benefiting small entrepreneurs.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Significant Changes to Floor Area Ratio (FAR)</h2>



<p>The proposed bylaws aim to double the Floor Area Ratio (FAR). Currently, the FAR is limited to 2.5 in most areas, but the proposal suggests increasing it up to 5. This will encourage multi-storey construction on smaller plots, optimising space utilisation. The final FAR will be determined after cabinet discussions and ministerial suggestions.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Permission for Shop Construction on Smaller Plots</h2>



<p>The proposed amendments will allow shop construction on plots of 90 square metres or more, providing commercial opportunities for owners of smaller plots.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Relaxation in Road Width Regulations</h2>



<p>The government will allow commercial use on roads 9-10 metres wide. Previously, this was only permitted on roads 12 metres or wider. This relaxation aims to benefit more people.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Modern and Efficient Parking Arrangements</h2>



<p>The proposed bylaws suggest several parking amendments. More organised and suitable parking will be ensured for commercial buildings, schools, colleges, nursing homes, etc., easing traffic congestion and providing convenient parking options.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Boost to Urban Development</h2>



<p>This move is expected to revitalise urban development in Uttar Pradesh. Mixed land use will complement residential and commercial areas, improving city landscapes and economies. Small businesses, startups, home-based businesses, and service sectors will particularly benefit.</p>

Heavy Rain: Flood-like Situation in East Rajasthan, Rivers Overflowing; Many Villages Cut Off in Hadoti


<p>Jaipur: Heavy rainfall has led to flood-like situations in eastern parts of Rajasthan. Rivers are overflowing due to torrential downpours, blocking several roads. In Hadoti, the gates of six major dams, including the Kota Barrage, have been opened to release excess water. The highest rainfall in the state was recorded in Bassi, Chittorgarh, at 12 inches (1 foot). The Meteorological Department predicts that the rainfall will continue across the state for a week.</p>



<p>Kota district&#8217;s Modak town recorded 8 inches of rainfall, resulting in severe flooding. Several settlements are submerged, with houses and shops inundated. A team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) rescued 14 people stranded in fields and near a shrine. A two-story building near a drain in Modak collapsed; however, there were no casualties.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Water Released from Six Major Dams</h2>



<p>In Hadoti, the gates of six large dams, including the Kota Barrage, have been opened to release excess water. The administration has issued an alert from Kota to Dholpur. Two gates of the Rana Pratap Sagar Dam in Rawatbhata are releasing 66,444 cusecs, five gates of the Jawahar Sagar Dam are releasing 97,833 cusecs, and eight gates of the Kota Barrage are releasing 136,000 cusecs of water.</p>

<p>A historical Chambal River bridge has been submerged. Three gates of the Bhimsagar Dam in Jhalawar have been opened 15 feet, releasing 9,270 cusecs of water, and one gate of the Kalisindh Dam has been opened half a meter for water release.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Roads Blocked in Hadoti</h2>



<p>The following routes are blocked: Jhalawar-Gagron, Namana-Barundhan, Namana-Shyamu, Gararda-Namana, Khedli Amjhar, Chechat Khedli to Dhani, and connectivity to Khajuri village headquarters has been cut off.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ten Dams Overflow Due to Heavy Rainfall</h2>



<p>Chittorgarh district experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday, causing ten dams to overflow. Bassi recorded the highest rainfall at 12.59 inches. The following dams overflowed: Modiya Mahadev, Guner, Kadmali, Sadi, Bujhda, Dahi Kheda, Umarcha, Nahargarh, Devalia, and Shripura. The water level in Sankal Kheda reached 35 feet, Orai Dam 24.5 feet, and Sankeda Dam 10.25 feet.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">One Death Due to Wall Collapse</h2>



<p>In Ajmer district, an hour of heavy rainfall impacted daily life. A bank wall collapsed on Todarmal Marg, resulting in one death and two injuries. A private hotel wall also collapsed near Subhash Udyan.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Concrete Bridge Collapses</h2>



<p><strong>Hanumangarh:</strong> A concrete bridge built over the Semnale collapsed on Tuesday night. The bridge was constructed approximately three years ago. Sikar district also experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday night, inundating fields and roads. Ramgarh Shekhawati received the highest rainfall at 34 mm.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Rainfall to Continue for a Week</h2>



<p>Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre, stated that a cyclonic circulation persists over south-eastern Rajasthan and surrounding areas. The monsoon trough line is also passing through southern Rajasthan. This will result in heavy to very heavy rainfall, and extremely heavy rainfall in some areas of south-eastern and southern Rajasthan for the next week. Most parts of eastern Rajasthan are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall, with heavy rainfall in some areas for the next week. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms is also expected in parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions in western Rajasthan over the next three to four days, with heavy rainfall in one or two places.</p>

<p>Ghana has conferred its highest honour on PM Narendra Modi. He was awarded the ‘Officer of the Order of the Star of Ghana’. This follows a similar honour bestowed upon him by Cyprus. During his visit, PM Modi signed four separate agreements.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Matter of Pride for Me</h2>



<p>Upon receiving the highest honour from Ghanaian President John Mahama, PM Modi stated, &#8220;This is a matter of pride for me.&#8221; Modi added that India and Ghana consider terrorism an enemy of humanity and will work together against it. In Ghana, PM Modi emphasized that this is not a time for war, and problems should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Both nations are in agreement on reforms within the United Nations and have expressed concern over ongoing conflicts in Western Asia and Europe.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">India Focuses on Increasing Trade</h2>



<p>PM Modi stated that trade between India and Ghana has exceeded ₹250 billion. The target is to double this figure in the next five years. He invited Ghanaian President John Mahama to visit India. Modi also mentioned that India will cooperate with Ghana in fintech and share its experience in digital transactions through UPI.</p>



<p>India will double ITEC and ICCR scholarships for Ghanaian youth, assist in the Feed Ghana programme, provide training to the Ghanaian army, and collaborate on maritime security, defence supplies, and cybersecurity. India will also provide affordable healthcare services and establish skill development centres for vocational education for Ghanaian youth.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PM Modi Has Received Highest Honours from Over 20 Countries</h2>



<p>Prior to this, PM Modi received the highest honour from the Cypriot government. President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides awarded PM Modi the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, Cyprus&#8217; highest knighthood, named after the first President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III.</p>



<p>PM Modi has received honours from over 20 countries. Mauritian PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam awarded him the ‘Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean’. The Sri Lankan government bestowed upon him the ‘Sri Lanka Mithra Vibhushan Award’. Kuwait awarded him the Order of Mubarak Al-Kabir, its highest civilian honour.</p>



<p>Guyana and Barbados conferred their highest civilian honour, the Order of Excellence. The government of Dominica has also bestowed its highest honour upon PM Modi. The then-government of Afghanistan awarded him the State Order of Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan. PM Modi has also received the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine from the Palestinian government and the UN Champion of the Earth Award from the United Nations.</p>

<p><strong>MP News:</strong> From 1 July, it has become mandatory for teachers in Indore district to mark their e-attendance on the Shikshak app. However, the app has not been functioning correctly for two days since the order was issued. Teachers tried to mark their attendance using the app and their passwords from 10:30 am onwards. Most teachers were able to register their presence around 11:00 am. However, many teachers could not mark their attendance through the app. In the evening, the app was inaccessible at 5:00 pm, causing further distress among teachers.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Salary Deductions</h2>



<p>There are 6557 teachers in Indore district. This app will be linked to the MIS portal in the coming days. If the app continues to malfunction, the salaries of many teachers will be deducted. This has caused considerable anxiety among teachers, and the teachers&#8217; union is demanding the installation of thumb impression machines instead of the app. The district education office did not have access to the e-attendance data on the app even by 2 July, preventing officials from providing information on how many teachers marked their attendance through the app in the first two days.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Half-Day Instructions</h2>



<p>The timings for government schools have been set from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm. Attendance on the app is valid between 8:00 am and 10:30 am. Attendance registered after this time will be considered a half-day. The out-time is being recorded between 5:00 pm and 5:30 pm. Teachers in rural areas are facing more difficulties with the app-based attendance system than those in urban areas. Many villages in the Manpur and Sanwer development blocks experience network issues.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Initial Problems</h2>



<p>&#8211; Even after the app opened in the morning, attendance could not be marked.</p>



<p>&#8211; Difficulties in marking e-attendance on the app persisted for an hour after the exit time in the evening.</p>



<p>&#8211; Many senior teachers are not comfortable using Android phones.</p>



<p>&#8211; Internet connectivity issues are expected in rural areas.</p>



<p>&#8211; Objection: Implementation should not have happened before resolution.</p>



<p>Regarding the e-attendance system, the teachers&#8217; union stated that they are not opposing the system, but resolving the ground-level issues before implementation is necessary. Harish Boyat, the union&#8217;s patron, and Praveen Yadav, the district president, stated that thumb impression machines could also be installed in schools. They will also submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister.</p>



<p><em>&#8220;This is a new system, which all teachers are adopting. Initially, complaints were received from several places that the app was not opening. We have told the teachers to uninstall and reinstall the app. This will make it work correctly. <p><strong>Delhi-Mumbai Expressway: Jaipur/Dausa:</strong> The Bandikui-Jaipur Link Expressway, connecting the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to Jaipur, is finally set to open on Wednesday morning at 8 am. The expressway will be open for a trial period of one to ten days. No toll will be levied during this trial period.</p>



<p>It is understood that if no flaws are found, the expressway will be opened permanently, and toll collection will commence. Traffic will not begin on Wednesday from any interchanges except the Khuri interchange. If all goes well, traffic will be allowed on the expressway from other interchanges within a day or two.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Expressway built at a cost of crores</h2>



<p>According to NHAI officials, the 66.91-kilometre-long Bandikui-Jaipur Expressway has been constructed at a cost of ₹1368 crore. During the trial period, no vehicles will be stopped except tractors, motorcycles, and other prohibited vehicles. After the opening of the Bandikui-Jaipur Expressway, the journey from Jaipur to Delhi will become easier and quicker, taking only two and a half to three hours.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Proposed Toll</h2>



<p>&#8211; ₹150 toll on the 66.91 km Jaipur-Bandikui Expressway.<br>&#8211; ₹550 to ₹560 toll on the Jaipur-Bandikui-Sohna Expressway.<br>&#8211; ₹130 toll on the Sohna to Gurugram six-lane highway.<br>&#8211; ₹680 to ₹690 toll between Jaipur and Delhi.<br><strong>(For private car drivers)</strong></p>

<p>The trial run on the Jaipur-Bandikui Expressway will begin at 8 am on Wednesday. Initially, traffic from the Delhi Expressway and Manoharpur Highway will be allowed. Karun Nair, batting at number three, contributed 31 runs. Nair and Jaiswal shared an 80-run partnership for the second wicket. Nair once again missed the opportunity to play a big innings.</p>

<p>Indian captain Shubman Gill batted at number four. Gill and Jaiswal added 66 runs for the third wicket. Jaiswal missed out on a century, falling for 87 as the third wicket when the team score was 161. After Jaiswal&#8217;s dismissal, Gill and Pant added 47 runs for the fourth wicket. Pant was dismissed for 25 with the score on 208. Nitish Reddy followed soon after, becoming the fifth wicket to fall for just 1 run.</p>

<p>Subsequently, Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja ensured no further damage to the Indian team. Gill scored his seventh Test century. Gill is unbeaten on 114 runs off 216 balls, including 12 fours. Ravindra Jadeja is unbeaten on 41 runs off 67 balls, with five fours. A 99-run partnership has already developed between them. If India is to post a large score, both batsmen will need to extend their innings on day two. For England, Chris Woakes took two wickets, while Brydon Carse, Ben Stokes, and Shoaib Bashir each took one wicket.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Gill&#8217;s Century Sparks Record-Breaking Spree</h2>



<p>– Shubman Gill became only the second Indian captain to score a century in Birmingham. Previously, Virat Kohli achieved this feat in 2018.</p>



<p>– Shubman Gill&#8217;s control percentage was 96.5% when he reached his century. This is the highest control percentage ever recorded by a batsman scoring a century in England.</p>



<p>– Shubman Gill is only the second Indian captain to score two centuries in two Tests in England. Mohammed Azharuddin previously achieved this in 1990.</p>

<p><strong>MP News:</strong> The Pul Bogda bridge in Bhopal has emerged as a major challenge for the metro train project. Over 200 historic houses and shops, including a sawmill, will be demolished in the area. The Pul Bogda bridge is to be the interchange junction for the Blue and Orange lines. Preliminary work has begun, and the area has been closed off; however, work cannot fully commence until the land is cleared. Experts estimate that if work begins now, the three-tier junction will take two years to complete.</p>

<p><strong>Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train:</strong> The Indian Railways has launched the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train to offer pilgrims and tourists an experience of India&#8217;s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. On 25 July, this special train will depart from Safdarjung Railway Station, Delhi, for the Shri Ramayana Yatra. The railway initiative is in line with the Indian government&#8217;s &#8220;Dekho Apna Desh&#8221; (See Your Country) and &#8220;Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat&#8221; (One India, Best India) visions to promote domestic tourism.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Purpose and Significance of the Journey</h2>



<p>The Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train aims to promote Indian culture and religious sites. This journey will cover places associated with the life and legacy of Lord Rama. The IRCTC&#8217;s special tour, spanning 17 days, will visit Ayodhya, Nandigram, Sitamarhi, Janakpur, Buxar, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Nasik, Hampi, Rameshwaram, and then return to Delhi.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Places to be Visited</h2>



<p>The first stop will be Ayodhya, where the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Temple, Hanuman Garhi, and Saryu Ghat will be visited. Following this, the train will proceed to Buxar in Bihar to visit the Ram-Janaki Temple and other religious sites. Next, the tour will visit Nasik, where the Panchavati area and Trimbakeshwar Temple will be visited. Finally, the tour will conclude with a visit to the Ramanathaswamy Temple and Dhanushkodi in Rameshwaram. On the 17th day, the train will return to Delhi.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Amenities on Board</h2>



<p>Passengers can book seats with a 25% payment. The train offers several amenities, including two modern kitchens, two restaurants, sensor-based washrooms, foot massagers, and AC coaches. Each coach also has security guards and CCTV cameras.</p>

<p>Passengers can board and alight from the train at Delhi, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Etawah, Tundla, Lucknow, and Kanpur stations.</p>

<p><strong>PM YASHASVI Yojana:</strong> The application process for the Pradhan Mantri Yashasvi Scholarship Yojana 2025 (PM YASASVI Scholarship 2025) has begun. If you belong to the Other Backward Class (OBC), Economically Backward Class (EBC), or De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT), you have a great opportunity to avail the benefits of this important central government scheme. Under the “Pradhan Mantri Yashasvi Scholarship Yojana,” run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, eligible students will receive an annual scholarship ranging from ₹75,000 to ₹1.25 lakh. The last date to apply for this scheme is 31 August 2025.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PM YASHASVI Yojana: Who can apply?</h2>



<p>The scheme will benefit students studying in classes 9 and 11. For application, the student&#8217;s family&#8217;s annual income should be less than ₹2.5 lakh. This scholarship will be given to students of prominent schools in the country that consistently achieve a 100% result in board examinations (classes 10 and 12). Students of classes 9 and 10 will receive a scholarship of ₹75,000 per year. Students of classes 11 and 12 will receive ₹1.25 lakh per year (including hostel and school fees). <h2 class="wp-block-heading">PM YASHASVI Yojana Eligibility Criteria: Examination Process</h2>



<p>To receive a scholarship under this scheme, it is mandatory to pass the Yashasvi Entrance Test (YET) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This exam will be computer-based (CBT) and will last for 3 hours. The exam will have a total of 100 MCQ questions. This includes 30 questions on mathematics, 20 on science, 25 on social science, and 25 on general knowledge.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">PM YASHASVI Yojana 2025: How to Apply</h2>



<p>To apply, first go to the NSP portal scholarships.gov.in.<br>Click on the “New Registration” link available on the website&#8217;s homepage and complete the OTR registration.<br>Then log in and fill out your application form.<br>After confirming all the information, submit the form.<br>Download the application form and keep a printout for your records.</p>

<p><strong>LU UGET Admission 2025:</strong> Lucknow University (LU) has announced the dates for its Undergraduate Entrance Tests (UGET 2025) for undergraduate course admissions. According to the university, these examinations will be held from 5 July to 12 July 2025.</p>



<p>It is mandatory for all candidates to download their admit cards from the university&#8217;s official website, ikounivadm.samarth.edu.in, before the examination. No candidate will be allowed entry to the examination centre without an admit card. A valid identity proof (ID Proof) is also mandatory.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to Download the Admit Card</h2>



<p>First, go to ikounivadm.samarth.edu.in.</p>



<p>On the homepage, click on the ‘UG Entrance Admit Card 2025’ or ‘Download Admit Card’ link.</p>



<p>The login page will now open, where you should enter your registered email ID, password, and captcha code.</p>



<p>Press the ‘Login’ button.</p>



<p>Your admit card will appear on your screen. Check it, download it, and take a printout.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Important Instructions</h2>



<p>It is mandatory to bring your admit card and a valid identity document such as an Aadhaar card, voter ID, or driving licence on the day of the examination.</p>



<p>Candidates must arrive at the centre at least 30 minutes before the start of the examination.</p>



<p>No electronic devices such as mobile phones, smartwatches, etc., will be allowed in the examination centre.</p>

DU to Hold Special Exams for Students Affected by 'Operation Sindoor'


<p>Good news for Delhi University students who couldn&#8217;t take their semester exams in May 2025 due to Operation Sindoor. The university announced on Tuesday that these students will be given a special opportunity to take the exams. In an official statement on Tuesday, the Controller of Examinations, Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, said that affected undergraduate and postgraduate students of the 2024-25 academic year can retake their missed exams. These exams will be held on 13, 14, and 15 May.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Forms can be submitted until 10 July</h2>



<p>The university stated in its official statement that the deadline for submitting the Google Form for special examinations is 11:59 PM on Thursday, 10 July 2025. The university clarified that this special provision is only for students who were unable to take the exams due to circumstances related to Operation Sindur. Therefore, students will need to submit valid documentary evidence proving their inability to reach Delhi due to circumstances related to Operation Sindoor.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">University to maintain records</h2>



<p>Controller Tuteja also explained that this new initiative is to protect students from academic disruption caused by unforeseen events (such as emergencies or sudden difficulties). To maintain fairness in the process, records of everything will be kept. He further stated that this step will benefit many students whose academic schedules were disrupted. The examination branch will announce these rescheduled exam dates, and it will only apply to verified applicants.</p>
