Fraud in Rajasthan over hotel bookings! FIR against OYO founder Ritesh Agarwal for cheating over ₹22 crore


<p><strong>Jaipur: </strong>Hotel operators in Jaipur have accused Oyo Rooms, an online hotel booking company, of making fraudulent bookings at their hotels. By creating these fake bookings, Oyo inflated its earnings, but this has resulted in hotels facing tax recovery, penalties, and interest charges amounting to crores of rupees from the GST department.</p>



<p>They are running from pillar to post dealing with the department. One hotel has filed an FIR against Oyo company director Ritesh Agarwal at Adarshnagar police station. Hussain Khan, President of the Hotel Federation of Rajasthan, described this unusual case as a growing problem for the hotel industry. Meanwhile, Sandeep Gogia, the convenor, stated that 100 hotels have received GST notices.</p>



<p>In Jodhpur too, in the last six months, more than 10 hotel operators have received notices from SGST and CGST. It was revealed that large-scale fraud occurred in the name of booking and then cancelling hotel rooms. One hotel even received a notice for approximately ₹1 crore. Hotels are booked online and then immediately cancelled. A GST charge is levied for this, which the hotel operators have to bear.</p>

<p>Madan Jain, director of Samskara Resort, stated that Oyo showed bookings totalling ₹22.51 crore at their resort. Because of this, the GST department has demanded payment of ₹2.66 crore. Notably, Oyo showed bookings at Samskara even in 2016, when the hotel did not even exist.</p>

<p><strong>Salman Khan Threat:</strong> Bollywood actor Salman Khan has received another death threat. This threat was delivered via a WhatsApp message to the Worli office of Mumbai&#8217;s Transport Department.</p>



<p>The threatening message not only contained a death threat against Salman Khan but also stated that the attackers would enter his home to attack him. Furthermore, a threat to blow up the actor&#8217;s car was also made.</p>



<p>Taking the matter seriously, an FIR has been registered against an unknown person at the Worli police station. The police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the sender of the message as soon as possible.</p>

<p>Salman Khan has been receiving continuous threats for some time now, leading to increased security measures. In November, the Bollywood actor received a death threat in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Mumbai Police arrested 24-year-old Sohail Pasha from Karnataka on 12 November last year for sending threatening messages to Salman Khan. Prior to this, 20-year-old Mohammad Tayyab Ali from Noida, UP, was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill the superstar.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Salman in the crosshairs of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang</h2>



<p>It is noteworthy that during interrogation, the accused arrested in the NCP leader Baba Siddiqui murder case revealed that Salman Khan was also on their hit list. Shooters from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang had conducted several recce missions of Salman&#8217;s residence, &#8216;Galaxy Apartment&#8217;, in Mumbai. However, due to tight security, they could not attack Salman. But in April last year, five rounds of firing took place outside Salman&#8217;s house, followed by the murder of Salman&#8217;s close associate, Baba Siddiqui, a few months later. Notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi stated in an interview that his sole aim in life is to kill Salman Khan.</p>



<p>Last year, Mumbai Police tightened security outside Salman Khan&#8217;s home. Additionally, bulletproof glass was specifically installed on the balcony of &#8216;Galaxy Apartment&#8217; from where he greets his fans. Besides Mumbai Police, private security guards are also deployed outside Galaxy Apartment.</p>

Mehul Choksi Arrested in Belgium: PNB Fraud Fugitive Apprehended


<p>Mehul Choksi Arrested: Fugitive diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, wanted in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, has been arrested in Belgium. Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sources confirmed this on Monday. </p>



<p>The 65-year-old Choksi was arrested on Saturday and is currently in a Belgian jail. Local police cited two open-ended arrest warrants issued by a Mumbai court on 23 May 2018 and 15 June 2021 respectively during the arrest.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">₹13,850 Crore Fraud Case</h2>



<p>Choksi, along with his nephew Nirav Modi, is wanted by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) (ED)) in connection with a ₹13,850 crore fraud against PNB. Both allegedly misused Letters of Undertaking (LoU) and Foreign Loan Contracts (FLC) by allegedly bribing officials at the bank&#8217;s Brady House branch in Mumbai. This is the biggest loan scam in India&#8217;s banking history.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Choksi and Nirav Modi Fled India</h2>



<p>Weeks before the scam became public, in January 2018, Choksi and Nirav Modi fled India. Nirav Modi is currently in a London jail, with extradition proceedings ongoing, while Choksi had earlier acquired citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda and resided there. He mysteriously disappeared from Antigua in 2021 but was later apprehended in Dominica.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">May Seek Bail Citing Poor Health</h2>



<p>The Belgian Foreign Ministry recently confirmed Choksi&#8217;s presence and that the matter is being treated with importance and attention. Reports suggest Choksi obtained a Belgian residence card and was living in Antwerp with his wife, Priti Choksi, a Belgian citizen. It is expected that Choksi may seek bail and release from a Belgian court, citing poor health and other reasons.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Choksi&#8217;s Arrest a Major Success for India</h2>



<p>Meanwhile, the arrest is being seen as a major success for the Indian government and investigating agencies. In December 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman informed Parliament that assets worth ₹22,280 crore related to wanted individuals like Mehul Choksi had been seized or auctioned to recover the loan. All eyes are now on whether the Belgian government will act on India&#8217;s extradition request and whether Choksi can be brought back to India soon.</p>

According to the May 2025 Visa Bulletin released by the US Department of State, the cut-off date for India in the EB-5 Unreserved Category has been pushed back by more than six months to May 1, 2019. In contrast, the cut-off date for China remains fixed at January 22, 2014. The bulletin stated that it was necessary to further delay India&#8217;s final action date to maintain the EB-5 visa numbers within the stipulated limits for fiscal year 2025.</p>

<p>A severe mosquito infestation is currently plaguing the villages of Dhawa, Melba, and Doli, near Jodhpur district in Rajasthan. The Jojari river, flowing through these areas, is heavily polluted with chemicals, posing a significant threat to the villagers. The stench from the contaminated water makes breathing difficult, and the resulting mosquito breeding has caused widespread distress. These mosquitoes gather in swarms, particularly in the evenings. As dusk settles in Dhawa, Doli, and Melba, the sky is filled with swirling clouds of mosquitoes.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Child&#8217;s Condition Deteriorates</h2>



<p>In Dhawa village, power outages have exacerbated the problem, leaving villagers vulnerable to mosquito bites throughout the night. The situation is so dire that no villager can sleep without a mosquito net. A young child suffered a severe reaction to mosquito bites, resulting in facial swelling.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Teams Arrive to Investigate</h2>



<p>BCMO Dr. Mohandan Ratnu stated that following reports of the infestation, four teams were formed under the leadership of Dr. Naveen Vishnoi in Dhawa&#8217;s Bajrang Nagar village. Each team surveyed 50 houses, including the home of the affected child. Villagers reported a two-day power outage, attributing the child&#8217;s bites to this. The child was examined and found to be healthy. Instructions were given to increase anti-larva activity in the area.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Problem Highlighted to State Minister Bishnoi</h2>



<p>State Minister KK Bishnoi visited Dhawa on Sunday. Villagers informed him about the problems caused by the Jojari river, frequent power cuts, and the mosquito menace. When shown a photograph of the child injured by mosquito bites, Minister Bishnoi was shocked. He immediately contacted administrative officials and the CMHO, instructing them to address the issue urgently and arrange for fogging in the affected villages.</p>

<p><strong>Jaggo Singh Dhakar</strong><br><strong>Jaipur: </strong>Amidst the process of restructuring and reconstitution of the three-tier Panchayati Raj institutions, individuals aspiring to contest elections for Sarpanch, Pradhan, Panchayat Samiti, and Zila Parishad member, along with political party workers, are actively seeking opportunities. Simultaneously, young people dreaming of government jobs are hopeful about the imminent release of vacancies in Panchayati Raj institutions.</p>



<p>It is estimated that approximately six thousand positions for officials and staff will be created in the reconstituted institutions. Proposals for around 2500 new Gram Panchayats have been received. Objections to these proposals are currently being addressed. These proposals will be finalised in June. Consequently, positions will be created based on the number of new Gram Panchayats, Panchayat Samitis, and Zila Parishads. The number of Panchayati Raj representatives will increase after the reconstitution.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5,000 Positions to be Added in Gram Panchayats</h2>



<p>Each Gram Panchayat will have a Gram Vikas Adhikari (Village Development Officer) and a Junior Assistant. With the creation of 2,500 new Gram Panchayats, 5,000 positions will be generated at the Gram Panchayat level. Furthermore, 8 new Zila Parishads will be formed. Each Zila Parishad will require an average of 13 officers, in addition to other staff. Panchayat Samitis will require an average of 6 officers, along with other staff. The formation of approximately 100 new Panchayat Samitis is proposed. Thus, it is estimated that around 6,000 positions will be created across all new Panchayati Raj institutions.</p>

<p>Objections to the proposals for new and reconstituted Panchayati Raj institutions are being addressed at the District Collector level. The formation of new institutions will lead to the creation of new positions. <p><strong>Fake doctors in Madhya Pradesh</strong>: A string of sensational revelations has emerged in the state, exposing widespread fraud in the medical field. Following the discovery of a fake doctor at Damoh&#8217;s Mission Hospital, the Child Commission team raided an institution in Sagar that was churning out fake doctors by issuing bogus certificates. Unemployed youths from rural areas were enticed with promises of opening their own clinics, only to be cheated out of large sums of money in exchange for these fraudulent documents.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Major revelation in Child Commission complaint</h2>



<p>This was revealed through a complaint received by the Child Commission. Some people alleged in their complaint that fake doctors were being produced at Radha Raman Institute, operating in the LIC building at Kalicharan Chauraha, under the guise of skill development. The commission, acting swiftly on the matter, conducted a joint raid with the district administration on Friday. Several records of youths who had been issued fake certificates were recovered from the centre.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Racket of training fake doctors busted</h2>



<p><strong>Radha Raman</strong> Institute, started 10 years ago under the name of PM Kaushal Vikas Kendra, shut down after two years. Afterward, it began operating as a centre for training fake doctors. Preliminary investigations have found no affiliation with any university. The operator, Sunil Nema, a resident of Moti Nagar police station area, used a call centre to contact unemployed youths and lure them into the scheme. During the investigation, 12 young women working at the call centre were found. The operator, Sunil Nema, did not appear despite being informed.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How they trapped the youth</strong></h2>



<p>● Unemployed youths from rural areas were contacted via call centre and lured with the promise of becoming doctors.</p>



<p>● <strong>The cost of one certificate ranged from ₹32,000 to ₹45,000, which also included paramedical courses and clinic operation training.</strong></p>



<p>● The target was youth who had passed 10th or 12th standard and aspired to become doctors. They were lured and large sums of money were extorted from them.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Alcohol bottles and a money-counting machine found at the institute</h2>



<p>Alcohol bottles and a money-counting machine were found at the institute. Hundreds of fake certificates have been distributed from here over 8-10 years. These fake doctors may be practicing in villages. Instructions have been given to the Collector for action.</p>
